The Exotic Shorthair is often described as the "lazy person's Persian" - it has the same sweet round face and calm personality, but with a much shorter, easier-to-maintain coat.

Breed Info - Exotic Shorthair
Origin
This breed was developed in the United States by crossing Persian cats with American Shorthair cats to keep the Persian look while reducing heavy grooming needs. It later became a recognized breed of its own.
Appearance
Key Features
- Round head with large round eyes
- Short, flat nose ("brachycephalic" face)
- Small rounded ears
- Thick, plush, dense short coat

- Short strong legs
- Thick tail
Colors
They come in many colors and patterns:
- Solid (white, black, blue, cream, red)

Personality
Temperament
Exotics are usually:

- Gentle
- Quiet
- Affectionate
- Loyal
- Indoor-oriented
- Good with children and respectful pets
They are not overly demanding but love being near their people and often become lap cats. They enjoy short playful moments but are generally low-energy and relaxed.
Grooming
Even though they are shorthaired, they still need care:
Weekly Care
- Brushing 1-2 times per week
- Eye cleaning (very important because of flat face)
- Ear checks
- Nail trimming
- Dental care
They shed more than many people expect because of the dense undercoat.
Health Considerations
Because of the flat face structure, they can be prone to:
- Tear staining / eye discharge
- Breathing issues
- Dental crowding
- Heat sensitivity
- Obesity
- Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) in some lines
Responsible breeding is very important.
